One of the things I really suck at is gauging when to buy more coffee. I always either end up with way too much coffee on hand, or else I'm getting new coffee only as I'm finishing the last of the previous bag, meaning that the new coffee isn't rested.
Lately been making more of the second error than the first. I should have gone to Ain't Normal and picked up something with a little mileage on it, but due to family stuff I've been either fully occupied or completely wrecked all week.
I ordered a couple of things from Hydrangea, [[Hydrangea Sudan Rume Honey Coffea Diversa]] and [[Hydrangea Catiope Strawberry Natural El Mirador]]. The latter is a tiny bag since that's all they had in stock. I've had that coffee before from Black and White and loved it, so I would have ordered a larger amount if it was in stock. Saving that for later.
I've brewed the Sudan Rume a couple of times and gotten pretty interesting and somewhat weird results. This may well be because I'm brewing it too soon, but it doesn't actually have any of the flavors I normally associate with unrested coffee. It tastes darker roasted than I think it is, with a lot of chocolate notes. I don't dislike chocolate flavors in my coffee, but I don't usually seek them out, either. The weird bit though is the strong fragrance and moderate flavor of dark rye bread.
