Notes: I believe this was via [[YT-My Analog Journal-Krishna Villar-Psychedelic Cumbia 2021-02-28]]? Not sure.
Attempts to google the genre were unproductive. [Here](https://medium.com/old-pink/gitkin-drops-dazzling-innovative-safe-passage-1ae1153c1454)'s as close as I got:
> International twang dub artist Gitkin drops his new offering, _Safe Passage_, via Wonderwheel.
>
> **Subsequent to his time with party-rock outfit Pimps of Joytime and a Grammy-nominated country blues project with Cedric Burnside, Gitkin decided to “explore tonalities I’d never messed with.” He found the exploration liberating, unchaining him from “having to write lyrics or involve my voice.”**
>
> Gitkin’s debut effort was 2018’s _Five Star Motel_, which delivered organic funk flavors blended with relaxing, comfy rhythms. On _Safe Passage_, he extends his sonic scope, adding tasty melodies influenced by Greek and Middle Eastern genres, along with Peruvian Chicha and Tuareg Saharan guitar elements, all buffed by surf-rock bite. This unique blend of sounds escapes the realm of trickery by amalgamating the various textures of gutsy blues with low-slung funk-lite energy, resulting in tasty, innovative soundscapes both captivating and mesmerizing.

Based on sound, I dunno. I get the [[chicha]] connection certainly. I dunno there's a [[jazz fusion]] / [[funk]] vibe too but overall I guess we'll just call it appropriation.
It's an okay album though.
