# HD800 Picked these up cheaply off Craigslist and swapped out the consumables. They're delightful headphones but I don't use them enough because they really suit some genres more than others, and it's not like I plan out a listening session with just one style of music in mind. Also, they're open-back, and I live in a pretty noisy neighborhood. ![[Pasted image 20241015132846.png]] # Basshead Cans Idle window-shopping, since it's oddly hard to find low-to-mid price nice basshead headphones. Many of the "affordable" options like the Massdrop Fostexes and JVC imports have been disco'd. There are still clear options in the very high end, but I don't actually want to spend a grand on headphones that I won't be able to use that often once lockdown is over. Having researched a bit, it seems like I'm most likely better off just sticking with my existing headphones (both the [[Argon]] and [[Beoplay H6]] have good bass performance in fact) and bumping subbass via EQ when needed. Or just sticking with IEMs, since the Bravado are nigh-perfect for me. - Wireless (sigh) - Sony WHXB900 ($150) - By all reports, it's not as good as the WH1000XM3, but it's not bad and definitely has a ton of bass - WH-1000XM3 ($350) - Very Similar midbass curve to the cascade and much better subbass. - Skullycandy Crusher ($100) - Saw a review which specifically indicated the haptic bass doesn't work with extremely low frequencies, which basically kills the whole appeal - Wired Sub-$500 - Meze 99 Classic (Similar response to Cascade w/more sub?) - Reviews are not inspirational - HarmonicDyne Zeus - E-Mu Teak - These seem to be the only set that are actually of interest in the basshead category these days tbh. - Wired Over-$500 - Campfire Cascade (Seems like the generally regarded best choice? But more midbass than subbass, and apparently not large skull friendly.) - Fostex TH-900 - Fostex TH-909 - Fostex TH-610 - ZMF Verite Closed - ZMF Atticus - DT1770 #list
